vertigo: a novel

vertigovertigo is my next project: a story about the way tragedies can either make us stronger or weaker, it deals with one man’s struggle to find it in himself to move on after his life shatters to pieces.

It will be made available in both e-book and paperback formats.

The total amount I’m trying to raise is $1,500, but the truth is the actual amount is closer to $1,300 because of PayPal and Indiegogo fees.

Around $4-500 will pay for editing.  And, yes, even if you self-publish, you still need your book to be professionally edited. This is not the internet, this is something you’re asking money for, so you have to offer people a finished product that’s as flawless as possible.

Now comes the tricky part: the money wouldn’t be enough if I wouldn’t be able to design covers and format interiors for e-books and paperbacks. The work I do, that’s at least $500 in the world of freelance graphic designers. At least.

So, yes, I can get a book released, and I also get to use the remaining funds for marketing and promoting, which means paying for ads on relevant websites such as Goodreads, hosting giveaways and contests. I don’t think there’s really a need to go crazy when it comes to spending on marketing and promoting a self-published novel.

That’s pretty much why I need the money, what I need it for, and how I want to proceed.

In return for your contributions you’ll receive e-books, mentions in the book, signed paperbacks, and prints of the cover artwork. And the oh-so-good feeling of having helped us out.

Without your help I wouldn’t be able to release this book, simply because I can’t afford to pay for everything that needs to be done. But with your contributions, I can reach the goal and make sure the best possible version of the novel gets released.

Simply put, I get to do what I love and try to make a living out of it.

And what I love is to be my own kind of superhero and change your worlds, word by word. I might even inspire you to join the team. But for now, it’s up to you to help me get there.

You can read a sample of the novel here.

If you want to pre-order the novel (thus ensuring that the book gets released) you can do so here, Also, any contributions are more than welcome.

Thank you,

Cristian

You are only a year older than me, but still you produce a great piece of work. I have read the sample and I would like to let you know that I would be very happy to read your novel.

  2. Cristian: a great concept for a novel. I hope you’ll consider using the experience of elders in your community for part of your research for the book. I don’t mean to be condescending but it’s hard to have the perspective at age 23 that an older person would have. And it’s important that it not be one-dimensional. As you say, trials can strengthen some but destroy others. That doesn’t make one group of people heroes and the other group ‘losers,’ just different.

I look forward to reading your novel. I’m sure many people will be able to relate to such a story. Most of us suffer adversity in our lives and not falling apart strengthens our character.

Makes me wish I still has Photoshop and a computer that could handle it. Good luck with the book, it’s always great to see a new writer putting his foot out and taking a chance with their creative endevour.
