Who we are…

“What we can or cannot do, what we consider possible or impossible, is rarely a function of our true capability. It is more likely a function of our beliefs about who we are.” – Anthony Robbins

The realists will say this is a lie, but we are what we think we are. What we consider to be out of our reach starts as a simple thought. We are the ones who create invisible boundaries.

In other words, we convince ourselves that we are this and this and that, and that’s it.

“I’m a writer.”

“I’m a singer.”

“I’m an accountant.”

You tell people you feel lonely, you tell people you don’t like going out, you tell people you’re a pessimist. You think and you think and you define yourself and you’re only going to act according to your definition.

I’m trying to challenge myself to change. To be exactly who I want to be, to be more than I ever thought I could be.

I urge you to do the same.

To tell yourself over and over again that you can be anyone you want to be, that you can accomplish anything.

I ask you to have faith. To believe. To act on those beliefs.

Of course, your mind will rebel. Your mind will try to reduce you to who you used to be. Your mind will try to simplify who you are as a person.

“But you can’t do that…” your mind will say. “It’s impossible.”

Well, if someone else did it, then it’s possible.

And if no one else ever accomplished what you’re dreaming of accomplishing, then you can convince your mind that you’ll be the first.

That’s what makes the difference.

Greatness is choosing to believe that you are good enough to get what you want. No matter what.

Greatness is a choice.

Greatness is the decision to fight against anything or anyone who tries to reduce you to a stick figure.

You more than that.

You are more than one of eight billion.

You are one of a kind.

Who you are, who you decide to be, it’s always been and always will be your choice.

“I challenge you to make your life a masterpiece. I challenge you to join the ranks of those people who live what they teach, who walk their talk.” – Anthony Robbins

  1. Well said. I’ve spent a lifetime changing from a frightened introverted pessimist into – well – something different. I feel comfortable in my own skin now. I understand something of my value to the world simply because I exist. This of course applies to everyone. I don’t believe in mistakes. I trust the unfolding of life in a way I never did before. I don’t take the mind’s crap anymore – well not ever for very long anyway. You’re so right Cristian – life is what we make it, what we choose to believe, and mostly our minds are full of really stupid beliefs. Trouble is we think the mind is who we are. The mind is just thoughts. They actually don’t exist anywhere, and have no power beyond our willingness to believe them, and to believe they define us.
