“The important people in our lives leave imprints. They may stay or go in the physical realm, but they are always there in your heart, because they helped form your heart. There’s not getting over that.” – David Levithan
People always leave. Sooner or later. One way or another. Whether they want to or not. And the rest of our lives we have to carry them inside our hearts, we have to figure out how to function without them.
We are who we are because of other people. Our friends, family, mentors, and even enemies shape us.
I once wrote the following dedication: To all the people who changed my life. For better or worse.
Because even those who hurt us teach us something. Some might say that without suffering there’s no learning.
Those who loved us teach us how to love others…
We are who we are because of everybody else.
There’s no way to escape this, because even if we isolate ourselves, we’ll be spending the rest of our lives with the gnawing sense of missing someone we never met.
We are interconnected.
There’s this invisible thread connecting us.
