Strive to be yourself

Modern day technology allows us to access information faster than ever. More information than ever. Keeps us connected. Keeps us in touch with people half a world away.

But there is a dangerous side effect to such a high level of media consumption.

We forget who we are.

It is easy to find idols. To admire someone for who they are, how they act, what they’ve achieved.

Those who aspired to greatness and somehow defeated insurmontable odds and achieved it.

That’s the part we often overlook, mistaking admiration for aspiration, confusing an idol with a role model.

What made Steve Jobs unique and successful was the fact that there never was one before him.

If you’re trying to be like someone else, without understanding what it took for them to get to where they are now, it’s a sure way for you to slowly become nothing at all.

You are you. There’s no one else like you. There never was and never will be.

And that is your power.

Embracing your unique nature, not trying to emulate someone else’s.

Taking a leap of faith as to become who you want to be, who you feel is the truest representation of your true self.

Understanding deeply that your journey is yours alone. That you create the path by walking, not by following.

What sets you apart?

What makes you feel alive?

Ever felt so enthusiastic about something that you couldn’t wait to tell everyone about it?

Ever felt so strongly about a dream that you did not give up and kept on fighting, even when everyone told you to give up?

That’s who you are. That’s pointing you in the direction of your true self.

And no one else can tell you that, no one else can guide you better than your own heart.

What is really important to you?

What is your passion?

What are you willing to give up sleep, food, time and energy to?

Being yourself is a constant battle.

But remember this: in any given day, the world asks you who you are. If you don’t know, the world will tell you.

And I assure you that you won’t like the answer.

  2. I would try to build a bridge rather than jump …. Or a swing …. That would be fun …. I think I will plant a tree …. In a few years it will be big enough that I can swing across …

  9. Great post, it reminds me of a quote I love “I love the woman I am because I fought to become her”. It could be an external or internal fight, so many expectations in both.
