Showcase: The Paintings of Famous Writers


Believe it or not, quite a lot of famous writers tried their hand at painting. After all, why not? Whether it was a sort of therapy or just a way to try a different form of expression for their ideas, they took the time to paint.

  1. Being a cowboy, I of course, lean more towards Charles Russell, one of the great painters of the American West.

    What a lot of people don’t realize was he was awesome story teller. A book of his that I absolutely enjoy reading is “Trails Plowed Under”. He preserved stories told to him around campfires, and he didn’t try to make the tellers look any more educated than they were. There’s some amazing butchering of the English Language (Yep, you’ll be googling all kinds of weird words) that he kept.

    The story I like the most he preserved is “Liars I have known”. Very entertaining.
