I’ve wanted to conquer the world ever since I was six. That was when I began to create this grand vision about myself: that one day I would become the richest man in the world. Of course, over the years that vision changed. But still, I want to conquer the world.
But the thing is, you can’t conquer the world by way of force, by manipulating, by intimidating. That is a lesson that every dictator learned the hard way, either by being defeated or by having his legacy destroyed after his death.
You can only conquer the world by adding value to it.
You can only live a meaningful life if you somehow enhance the lives of others. This can mean the world in general, a certain segment of the population, or friends and family.
We lift ourselves up by lifting others up. We understand who we are when we realize how is it that we want to add value to the world.
We are here for a worthwhile purpose. Always remember. Each and everyone of us is here for a worthwhile purpose. We have a meaning, a destiny, and perhaps that destiny is to help a million strangers or raise a child to become the greatest person he or she is capable of becoming.
Imagine the feeling. Visualize it. A person coming up to you to thank you for helping them out when they needed it the most. A person being grateful for the things you did for them.
We lie to ourselves when we act as if the world is a scary and dangerous place. We lie to ourselves when we act as if hard work, talent, ambition, power, money, or fame are all there is to gain in the world. We lie to ourselves when we preach the art of pragmatism. When we give up on our dreams to work jobs that we don’t like simply because they pay the bills.
But the truth is simple. Love.
That is what this world is all about. It’s not about what you receive, but what you give back to the world. What you add to it. And love is what makes dreams impossible to measure.
You can’t measure heart. Passion.
Amor vincit omnia, the Romans used to say.
Love conquers fear, conquers hate. It builds bridges between people. It makes even the most impossible dreams come true. It’s the emotional fire that keeps you going long after your brain tells you to stop. It’s the one thing on earth that makes you want to take on even the hardest battle when you’re armed with nothing but hope.
Love yourself first. Love who you are, how you look, how you dress, how you talk or walk or frown or laugh or dance. Love yourself for who you are, because there was never someone like you and never will be. Love yourself for who you are, not for who others want you to be.
Then love the things that you do. Even the little things. Or especially the little things. Learn to love every waking moment of your life and live it as though it could be your last.
Do what makes you happy, and have the courage to never apologize for it.
That’s how you conquer the world.
