Love conquers all

Ever after. Two simple words. Simple words, when put together, can put a dent in the universe. Can nudge the world a bit.

Ever after. Fairytales are made of this. The lonely dream of a love that conquers all. Even death. A love that transcends time. A love so strong, in fact, that it could hold the world in place.

The binding force of atoms. The thing that keeps us awake at night, the thing that we dream about whenever we close our eyes.

To hold someone in your arms and to know that there’s nothing the world can threaten you with.

“In uncertainty I am certain that underneath their topmost layers of frailty men want to be good and want to be loved. Indeed, most of their vices are attempted short cuts to love. When a man comes to die, mo matter what his talents and influence and genius, if he dies unloved his life must be a failure to him and his dying a cold horror….we should remember our dying and try so to live that our death brings no pleasure to the world.”

John Steinbeck, East of Eden

Build your throne. Be your own hero, your own master. Be the captain of your soul. Love yourself fiercely.

But love others too. Love them completely. Love them without agenda. Love them even though they do not love you.

Love conquers all as long as we are willing to conquer ourselves. Our own demons, our own selfish needs. Our own desire to be loved.

Build your throne, but don’t forget that you can only sit by yourself in it. Come down, and find joy in sitting on the floor at three in the morning, sharing your soul with someone you’d hope could live forever in your heart.
