How often do you tell people to go fuck themselves?
If me using the word “fuck” makes you feel uncomfortable, ask yourself why.
Why do you do what you do? Why do you earn the money that you earn? Why are you happy? Or not? Why do you have the addictions that you have and others don’t? Or you don’t and others do.
It’s been years since I’ve wanted for people to define their hopes and dreams and wants and needs on their own terms, to figure out their why, to figure out what makes them feel alive and do that over and over again until they can’t keep their eyes open. And then, the next day, do that again.
I don’t care about the excuses and lies you keep telling yourself about why you don’t have what you want. I really don’t.
I need you to care enough about your dream that you are willing to tell people to fuck off and let you do what you want to do.
Because, guess what? When it’s time for you to die, you’re the one who’s going to be planted in the ground, not them. So you might as well live life on your terms.
You can’t be bothered by other people’s opinions, actions, or results. You need to know what you want, what makes you happy, why you do what you do.
So what if no one believes in you?
So what if your mom does not understand your lifelong dream?
So what if people tell you to be realistic?
So what if your best friend tells you to play it safe?
So what if the wisest person you know wants you to be someone you’re not?
So what if there are folks out there who think you’re not good enough?
Other people’s opinion of you does not have to become your reality.
So many of you are crippled by fear. By what other people think of you. You’re not defining your wants and needs because you’re not in control. You’re soft. You want others to do the thinking for you. You’d like to pay someone else to do your push-ups for you. To tell you what the right course of action is.
You’ve let the world, and your mom, and the media define who you are and what you want. You have to let go and just do.
Go out there and taste life. Try it all. At least once. Maybe twice. Being a freelancer, starting your own business, being an artist, being a vlogger, writing about movies and books and music. Try it all!
Understand yourself and define what you want, enjoy and need.
Self-awareness is a damn super power these days.
So, the advice I have is to figure out what makes you tick, to understand yourself, to figure things out for yourself: what your work/life balance and ambitions are, what your financial ambitions are, what your life challenges are.
What are the mountains that you want to climb while you’re here?
You can’t listen to anyone else. You need to listen to yourself, and do what feels right.
I want to write. Do you? I want to build the best blogs, the best resource on the web to find out about cool art, I want to share that art with the world, I want to write TV scripts and novels and short stories, and I want to inspire others to reach within and figure out what their deepest desires are and fulfill them.
I am writing these words because people are taught all their lives to listen, but never to understand. To be followers, but not students. To regurgitate someone else’s ideas and to want some sort of fairy tale ending to their stories. To achieve what their parents had failed to.
I’d very much like people to be themselves, to start with understanding themselves, and not trying to be like anyone else and not letting someone else’s opinion dictate the rhythm and pace of their own lives. The people that get the most out of this life are in tune with themselves. They’ve figured themselves out. Have you?
