When You Feel like Giving Up

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again. Then quit. There’s no use being a damn fool about it.”W.C.Fields

Perseverance is not an innate ability. Resilience, defined as promising yourself to never give up, is developed by giving up over and over again and wishing that you hadn’t.

As they say, experience is such a cruel teacher.

But you learn. Oh, my God, do you learn.

Do you know how many time I wanted to quit on this blog? Or on writing? Or on life itself?

Do you know how many times I cried out of sheer desperation, because no one could see me for who I was? Or my dream? Or even acknowledge my feelings?

As they say, nobody cares, work harder.

When you feel like giving up, work harder.

When you feel there are no more tears left, take a deep breath and go back to work.

When you feel like you are going gently into that good night, rage, rage against the dying of the light.

When you feel like the mountain you’ve got to conquer is impossible, remind yourself that it’s the pebble in your shoe that is the true obstacle.

When you feel you’ve lost it all, remind yourself that some have lost everything, and proceeded to build their empires again from scratch.

When you feel like the weight of the world is pressing down your shoulders, smile and tell yourself that that’s where it’s supposed to be.

If the world isn’t willing to carry your weight, carry the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Whenever I feel like giving up, I think of just one word. More. I need to work more, do more, become more. That is it.

When you feel like giving up, work harder.

  1. It is hard. It does feel like im running into doors with no keys. Like im locked in a room and cant move a foot from it. But then i remind myself that great things need time. Failure is a process of growing but people only care about the outcome. So i need to convince myself that no one cares for my dreams as much as I do and that is my motivation. So i work harder and cry more but the reward of seeing that my work was read by even just one reader feels like an achievement of a life time…i love your writing, it’s lively and friendly. It’s like ive known you for a long time.
