Difficult Roads

“The struggle alone pleases us, not the victory.” – Blaise Pascal

It is a well known fact that the more effort you put into something, the more you end up enjoying it.

Maybe that’s why we love unrequited love stories and folks who defy odds and expectations to come out on top. Maybe not many folks root for the underdog, but everyone secretly wishes he’d win.

That being said, whether you like it or not, perseverance beats talent every single time.

That’s it, guys. The so-called secret to having anything you want in life.

Please be aware that I wrote anything, not everything.

As a matter of fact, you can get anything you want in life as long as you are willing to give up everything else to get it. Try hard enough, long enough, and probably right before you give up, that’s when you’ll get it.

Why don’t most people do this?

Because it is unreasonable. It truly is. Who in their right minds would keep doing something when all they get is negative feedback? When everyone is telling them to call it quits and do something else?

It does require a certain dose of masochism.

The ability to be incredibly resilient.

I’ve spent half of my current life writing. More than two thirds of this period I didn’t get paid, never received much praise or have been rewarded in any way whatsoever.

My belief, not only in my abilities, but in the development of those abilities, is the only thing that kept me going.

You never fail, unless:

  1. You give up.
  2. You fail to assume responsibility and decide to blame someone else.

To those of you who are struggling, I say this: it gets better.

No matter what you are going through right now, if you keep going, it will eventually get better.

Even if you can’t see it, even if no one is willing to support and encourage you, even if there seems to be no hope at all, know that everything in this world is temporary. Even our troubles.

If you enjoy reading my blog, if you’d like to support me and all my other projects, you can contribute any amount you see fit via PayPal here.

Any amount matters. Any amount at all.
